Best strings for my Fender acoustic – I have a Fender Ensenada-series guitar that most likely came with these strings installed. After 6-7 weeks of frequent playing, I felt it was time to change strings. I installed Martin Lifespan phosphor bronze lights, excellent strings I have frequently used on other guitars. On the ESV-10, however, the sound was hollow and dull. I tried other coated strings (changing strings on a slot-head guitar is no fun) including Martin Lifespan 80-20s (better but still lacking,) EXPs, Nanowebs. Nothing sounded bad, but nothing was extremely pleasing either. The EXPs were pretty darn good. I wondered if perhaps it was the sound of the guitar itself–an all-solid spruce top with palo escrito sides and back–that I didn’t like. I certainly knew these strings existed, but was irrationally prejudiced against them because of the low E gauge–.052 instead of .053 or .054–and because they are from Fender, which I still have a hard time thinking of as a source of quality acoustic guitars and accoustic accessories. I tried non-coated John Pearse lights in both 80/20 and PB, and the 80/20s sounded great, but were dead in a week.

Great strings at a great price – I recently bought a Fender acoustic guitar that came with these strings. I really liked the tone and quality of the strings, but almost fell over when I saw the price of them at my local music store and Amazon Canada. When I found them on Amazon.com for less than $9 a set, I ordered three sets. I play the guitar everyday and almost two months in, these strings still sound and play great. They don’t appear to get as brittle feeling as other coated strings I’ve used after a few weeks. Guess we’ll see if they last as long as the Elixir coated strings I have been using for my acoustic guitars.

At last the sweet tones I have been looking for – YES !!!- Finally found the high note/cord sweet sound I was looking for. The clear crisp highs up on the fret board cords sound great together in a very nice match of tones. You have to work at it to get the high e string to sing for you but the extra work is worth it. The fender strings complement the fender guitar CD-60. Most all the cords in ALL the areas have a nice strong harmonic sound in ALL my songs.. I HAVE TRIED A LOT OF DIFF STRINGS. They also bounce nicely as I strum back and forth. Tension is pretty even. There is some high pitch ringing when you hit cretin cords that are similar in the high zone but WELL worth it since ALL of my songs I play ALL sound good with these strings. All other strings I have tried can’t seem to make ALL the songs sound perfect and tuned in a very nice harmony. With the dura-tone coated you can slid a bit up and down with out to much drag. I ordered some Elixir light nanoweb as back up for one last try at improvement ,, I believe I will get the same type of beautiful tones and sound on all songs but am worried about the to much slipperyness Elixir has.But will try and let you know.. I really Love the fender strings and in the long run after MUCH testing I’ll be sticking with the great tones of the Fenders dura-tone coated lights.

Item will be size in Photo not the selector button! – Regarding Fender 80/20 Bronze Dura Tone Coated guitar strings, select your size based on the size indicated in the photo of the item, not the selector button. The photos and the selection buttons are switched. I ordered both to be sure I got the .012 – .052 I was needing, and you must select the .010 – .048 to get those. Just go by the size in upper right hand corner of the package in the photo and that’s what you get.

May be that I was expecting too much – I was expecting a lighter guage string would make it easier to play but it didn’t. So probably my fault.

More for playability than tone, wound G shows wear sooner than other strings. – These strings are very supple, easy for chording and bending, but lack the tone of say, D’addario’s 80/20s. They’d shine most on electric acoustics, doing lead work. I also don’t find them to be any more corrosion resistant than the D’addarios, despite being nearly triple the price. On all the sets I’ve used, the wound G always shows wear (maybe it’s breakage along the winding) much too soon, but I do have a hard strumming style.
