I really like it – I like that it came with a learners book. I’ve already learned a few songs. The Kalimba itself seems good quality

Perfect as a gift! – This instrument makes a fantastic gift. The cherry wood is stunning, and the notes ring out clear and sweet when you play it. The sound reminds me of my childhood. The accessories are great, too, and the hard case is nice and sturdy with plenty of room for everything.

Don’t know what a Kalimba is or how it sounds? This one is an excellent way to learn! – International music has always been a fascinating to me. I find ways to try out indigenous instruments when I can. One was the didgeridoo, the Australian Aboriginal wind percussion instrument. I spent time learning it, including circular breathing and vocalizations. I have collected three. I also had a cheap mini-kalimba made for tourists, which fascinated me. The kalimba is a westernized version of an African instrument, the mbira, which has a long history. Many call it a “thumb piano, a name disliked by many people who play it. But, indeed, it is usually played with the thumbs. The device can have a varying number of “tines” held down by a bridge attached to piece of wood, a small drum, or a box of some kind to serve as a resonator. You hold the instrument with both hands, leaving the thumbs free to play the keys. Played well, the sound can be beautiful, but it even sounds good just “dinking around” with it. The kalimba has been folded into songs by David Bowie, Genesis, and others. I wanted a decent one to learn on. I found a beauty among the many kalimbas available on Amazon, which I was able to get for free as an Amazon Vine reviewer.
