A wonderful and fun to play musical instrument. – At my advanced age I decided it was time to learn how to play various musical instruments. I purchased two Chinese flutes, which I still cannot play, as well as two kazoos, which anyone can play who can hum, two harmonicas, which I can play about 80 songs at this time, a small 9 inch song flute and two Trophy 11 inch Flutophones, one black and one white one. I practice the most with my harmonicas but I also practice every day for a short time with my Flutophones. Unlike the small 9 inch song flute, this Flutophone has a much clearer and more pleasing sound.

Nice – A good little toy but I wish it came with a note chart.

Great for Little Hands – I actually run the music program for an elementary school and use these flutophones for the 2nd through 5th grade. The 4th and 5th grades are thriving, and the 2nd and 3rd grades are generally doing pretty well by and large. These instruments are well enough made and none have broken yet. I do tell the kids not to take off the removable mouthpiece, or if they do, to be careful not to break the fragile red spacer-ring.

but she likes the harmonica better. I think because it is easier to make … – My 3 yr. old Grand daughter is always trying to swipe her older brothers recorder, so I purchased this for her, so she had her own. She does play it, but she likes the harmonica better. I think because it is easier to make “music”, with the harmonica. It is plastic, but it is well made, and the sound is OK, for her age group. If you know how to play, it would still be a good instrument. I would purchase this again.

Decent quality, easier to play than a recorder for the young ones – Oh yes, these are the wonderfully loud and fun flutophones that you remember from your youth! I bought these for my adapted music class and they did just fine with them. The bigger, ridged holes make it easier to find the right place to put your fingers and you can blow as hard as you want on these and (mostly) play the right note. I mention this because I use recorders in my other classes and when students have a hard time it is for one of those reasons… they either can’t find the right place to put their fingers or they overblow and play the wrong note.

Didn’t know they still made these!! – Didn’t know they still made these!!!! These are the same ones we used 30 or 40 years ago in elementary school to learn to read music. Great way to learn a musical instrument, and fun for kids to play. Would not get it if your child is enjoys making loud, high pitched noises that can irritate – might wait until 7 or 8 y/o unless they are interest in music, more compliant/able to sit still to read for 20 minutes. Would highly recommend buying Music-time Flutophone Method Book to learn/re-learn to play along with the Flutophone.

    9. C. R (verified owner)

very easy to play – Very low pressure mouthpiece and easy fingering make it fun to learn with. Even the low notes can be played without good technique.

Just like school … – It’s the same quality and type that I remember playing back in elementary school … I purchased this as a stocking stuffer for my three year old to play around with to just get him used to music and different sounds – he likes playing it and laughs at my reaction (because it’s loud and sort of annoying!) – it’s annoying in a good way … as good as it can be to hear a three year old blow on it as hard as he can and this pushes out the loudest squeal …. anyway, I’ll stop … as a parent I should know better than to buy a loud gift … isn’t this something that a grandparent is supposed to buy?
