The Otomatone Deluxe is definitely worth the upgrade! – I love it! Definitely worth the money. For those wondering, it’s not a legitimate instrument – it’s more for funsies and gag play, but it’s definitely more ‘serious’ compared to the regular one. This one is connectable to an amp, sounds much louder and has a good sound range. Being a former violin player myself, I can definitely vouch and say that this is 10x easier to play since the hand positioning is similar, being fret-less isn’t a worry and I can hear certain notes just fine and play that way by ear. If you lack a musical ear, it may be a little difficult to play anything remotely recognizable at first, but it’s definitely worth the upgrade. If those that are fret-less need a bit of assistance, I got the average idea that each ‘note’ is relatively a half-step apart. 🙂 Each Otomatone’s frequency does differ from others, so do not worry if you’re is a little more reverby, flat sounding or higher pitched – it’s normal and has been discovered before (as noted by the popular Otomatone music player ‘mklachu’, who owns more then 2 Deluxes that all sound different). Practice makes perfect.

Made an amazing gift – This thing is so fun! I bought it as a gift and now have heard bizarre versions of multiple songs. In all seriousness, it’s a very well made and unique instrument. It’s sound is a bit strange and it’s somewhat difficult to play because it is an instrument, not a toy, but I’m incredibly happy with my purchase.

    3. F. T (verified owner)

Cute, but I believe it’s too expensive – It’s a cute toy, but it’s alot of money for something that is only played with a short time. I guess it’s durable enough, but my son hasn’t goofed around with it muh in the past 9 months. I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my high school freshman son. He had played with someone’s at school and thought it was fun(ny). I tried to coax him out of the idea, but my mother found out. She had me order it, because “that is what he wants”. You know how it goes with grandparents. LOL

      Muy bien ! – Muy bien !

    5. L. L (verified owner)

it’s a good one – Bought two of these, japanese version.

    6. R. D (verified owner)

Entertaining, but lacking in quality for price – My initial introduction to Otamatone was via a smaller Kirby branded edition I bought for a relative last christmas. Meant entirely as a gag gift, it ended up being a smash hit with everyone + myself included. My only real dislike was its small size in comparison to my man-sized hands.

    7. K. Z (verified owner)

always change battery’s on it so you can keep playing it. – The otamatone deluxe is an absolutely glorious thing to buy for yourself and to gift to someone I think this is well worth 70$ because it has a headphone jack a mini stereo volume controls and an octave switch which means you can change its pitch from high medium and low. and its size and stem are wider and bigger so it’s easier to play. highly recommend this product who wants to play an instrument and anyone who wants to annoy siblings and friends. Five stars.

I think it is overpriced for what you get. – Overpriced, should be a lot less money for plastic instrument
