A must-have for early childhood music classes – Egg shakers are a staple instrument for young children because they provide the appropriate volume of sound (unlike cymbals and sleigh bell shakers) and they are durable. Yes, children should be supervised using them because any egg shaker can break if thrown across the room hard enough (thanks, 6th graders!) which leaves you having to quickly sweep up the tiny pellets. So “we shake the eggs.” This brand is sturdy and the colors are limited to three: perfect amount of choice when you have a class of 18 who are allowed to pick their own (so no arguing over the only violet colored egg etc.) I love that infants enjoy these (supervised) for grasping or rolling during floor-time. These give excellent sensory input from the beads which makes them intuitive and soothing at the same time.
